Scarlet Serenade was inspired by my love of lilies — a flower I return to often for its elegance, strength, and quiet sensuality. I wanted the blooms to feel as though they were emerging from softness, almost melting into nothingness, held gently by atmosphere rather than form.
This painting began entirely in oils, which at the time was a new and intuitive experience for me. I allowed the background to remain fluid and unresolved, creating a sense of dissolving edges and gentle movement — a space where colour and feeling could breathe.
The lilies stand as a song within that softness, rich and expressive, their scarlet tones speaking of passion, devotion, and life force. Subtle splashes and swirling lines of gold rise through the work, symbolising ascension — the lifting of energy toward the divine, where beauty becomes something sacred rather than simply seen.
This piece is about surrendering control, trusting intuition, and allowing beauty to unfold naturally.
